Workshop Hamburg epea01

On May 10, 2011 all twelve winning photographers were invited to take part in a one-day workshop at the House of Photography at Deichtorhallen Hamburg. This was the first opportunity for all photographers to get to know the other participants and the four curators of the award, Rune Eraker, Sérgio Mah, Enrico Stefanelli and Ingo Taubhorn.

The workshop included an impulse speech by Dr. Mark Terkessidis a journalist and author who specialises in migration research and racism and has written “Interkultur” (Interculturality), a well-known standard reference in Germany. Different aspects of interculturality, European identities and migration were touched. A discussion followed allowing the photographers to talk about the topic “European Identities” and their expectations and ideas they had developed for this current award. The photographers also presented excerpts from their recent work. The participants were also given the opportunity to go to the publishing house Gruner & Jahr and meet the Director of Photography of the monthly magazine “Geo”, Ruth Eichhorn, who presented examples of how photographers worked on the topic of identity in “Geo”.
